DD National channel is a Public Service Broadcaster. DD National was launched in 1959. DD National channel is the largest terrestrial network in the world. It is the Number one channel in the country and it is the flagship channel of Doordarshan. DD National is a government body, but it has own editorial independence. On 15 September 1959 at the studio of All India Radio, Delhi, the first TV channel in India. DD is a part of All India Radio, so all the regular daily transmissions were operated by All India Radio. 15 August 1982 Doordarshan launch a national telecast service from own TV studio in Mandi House, New Delhi.
National events like Republic Day Parade, Independence Day Celebrations, National Award Presentation ceremonies, important Parliamentary debates, Railway and General Budget presentations, Election results and analysis, swearing-in ceremonies, President and Prime Minister’s visits abroad and foreign dignitaries to India are covered live on DD National. The Main events are Olympics, Asian Games, Cricket ODI Internationals involving India and other important sporting event also telecast live.
The information section on top of DD National consists of news and current affairs programmes largely twisted in-house. There are sponsored programmes like on issues related to women, tribal affairs and other public service programmes which are broadcast on regular basis.
